MSM to build a knowledge base of agri-tourism at the Caucasus University in Tbilisi
A joint proposal between the Caucasus University and Maastricht School of Management has won a Nuffic tender to build a knowledge base for agri-tourism at Caucasus University in Tbilisi, Georgia.
Georgia is an agricultural country having a long history in farming and allied activities. Therefore, there is a high potential to develop an important sector such as the agri-tourism and the demand for agri-tourism is increasing gradually.
Caucasus University (CU), is moving in the direction of establishing training programs for both the tourism industry as well as in the field of agri-business. Based on the developed master in agri-business, and the agri-tourism needs in the market, CU wants to develop within the existing master program a specialization on agri-tourism as well as a standalone diploma program on agri-tourism. By building up a knowledge base on agri-tourism, CU will be better capable of addressing future agri- tourism issues in Georgia. To establish this vision MSM will help building a knowledge base for agri-tourism.
In order to build up the knowledge in this field, the Tailor Made Training will work with CU staff and selected resource personnel from the private and public sector on gaining more insight on the nature of agri-tourism potential in Georgia. The research-findings will lead to the development of a specialization on agri-tourism within the existing agri-business master program as well as for a standalone diploma program on agri-tourism.
The project will run from September 2018 until June 2019 and will be will be managed by Diederik de Boer, Director of the International Projects Department and Consultancies and Ass. Professor in Sustainable Business Development.
Maastricht School of Management and Agribusiness development
MSM has a lot of experience in supporting agribusiness from an institutional and organizational knowledge eco-system point of view. Issues on how to link agro-supply and demand can be assessed, but also the development of apprenticeship programs, agribusiness eco systems, the development of agribusiness inclusive clusters, the development of telephone farmer systems, the setting up of agribusiness franchising models or agribusiness incubation parks and the development of curricula for agribusiness degree and non-degree programs can be researched and developed.
Nuffic Orange Knowledge Programme
The project between Caucasus University and MSM will be developed through a grant from the Orange Knowledge Programme (OKP) from Nuffic. The OKP aims to contribute to a society’s sustainable and inclusive development by offering access to education and training to professionals and organizations.
