A comparative study of banking efficiency between Indonesia and Thailand in the post Asian monetary crisis

This said Mr. Budi Santosa after successfully defending his DBA thesis titled: A Comparative Study of Banking Efficiency Between Indonesia and Thailand in the Post Asian Monetary Crisis.

Indonesia and Thailand are Asian countries and were most severely affected by the economic crisis at the end of the 1990s. The banking sector was the sector most affected. Through this study, Mr. Santosa wanted to give benefits in the form of lessons on how both countries implemented banking restructuring programs in order to get out of the economic crisis.

Mr. Santosa based this study on the efficiency concept proposed by Farrell (1957) and used the Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) method for measuring efficiency. In his study Mr. Santosa selected several banks in Indonesia and Thailand in various categories and some relevant variables for identifying factors affecting the banking efficiency of the two countries in the post Asian monetary crisis. The results revealed important aspects of the banking conditions in the two countries after the crisis and gave lessons on how the two countries managed to get out of the banking crisis.
