Scientific Symposium on “Applied Research for Agricultural Development in Rwanda”
Rwanda Polytechnic (RP), under the championship of IPRC Karongi, together with Maastricht School of Management (MSM) and Rwanda Development Board (RDB) through Strengthening Education for Agricultural Development (SEAD-West) project, organized a Scientific Symposium on “Applied Research for Agricultural Development in Rwanda”. The symposium took place in Kigali on 28th March 2023 at Ubumwe Grand Hotel.
This symposium aimed at disseminating Research and Innovation outputs from RP research community and beyond. It was to bring together applied research relevant for the agricultural and rural development of Rwanda, and serve for researchers/presenters a platform to share their research outputs and get feedback for maturing their manuscripts for publication.
It was also an exposure opportunity for young innovators from RP Colleges who showcased their innovation projects which increased their visibility and connection at National and International levels.
The symposium brought together around 100 participants including researchers, professionals, policymakers, private sector actors & innovators. Thus, it was a mixture of opening remarks, panel discussions, keynote speeches, parallel sessions, papers presentations and the student and teacher exhibition booths.
RP as a Higher Learning Institution mandated to carry out and promote research and technology in technical and vocational fields and disseminate their findings to foster national development, prioritizes research and innovation and their dissemination.

About SEAD West
Maastricht School of Management in partnership with the Rwanda Development Board (RDB) implements the SEAD West project: Strengthening Education for Agricultural Development. Through the project, the education & training institutions (IPRC Karongi, TVET Gisovu, TVET Kivumu, and TVET Bumba) are capacitated to better address the needs of the stakeholders in the agriculture sector with a focus on the Agri-Tourism value Chain.
The SEAD West project has, broadly, three lines of intervention: 1) Curriculum Development/Revision, both formal and non-formal; 2) strengthen the Applied research & innovation capacities of the partner institutions and 3) strengthen the outreach services, more specifically the offer of tailor-made training, and establishment of Service, Training, and Innovation Center in Agri-Tourism focusing on the Horticulture value chain and hospitality.

MSM's Expert Centre on Emerging Economies
This institutional collaboration project is part of MSM's Expert Centre on Emerging Economies. The department is an expert centre on local economic development in emerging and developing markets.
