Successful completion of program SEAD Cyclical Management & Leadership in Rwanda
On August 30 in Kigali, Rwanda, 18 participants in the SEAD Cyclical Management & Leadership (M&L) training received an MSM diploma after successful completion of the program.
Middle managers in Rwandan universities and TVET institutions often start their managerial job without prior management knowledge or experience. The MSM designed and delivered diploma program aims to enhance the knowledge and skills of these middle managers and is an intervention under the SEAD project. This project aims to strengthen education for agricultural development, targeting post-secondary educational institutions and including interventions in various areas.
The first delivery of the SEAD Cyclical M&L training started in November 2018 with a module on Initiating & Planning. This was followed up in 2019 with modules on Implementing & Monitoring and Leadership & Teams. Finally, the last module was on Culture & Change. In between the modules, participants worked on assignments that aimed to apply the knowledge and skills in their daily practice.
Participants in the training came both from Rwandan universities and from IPRC’s (Integrated Polytechnic Regional Centers) and either held an academic middle management position such as Head of Department or a director position such as Director of Academic Services and Director of Teaching & Learning Enhancement.
A second roll-out of the program will start by the end of this year, allowing more middle managers to further develop their management and leadership skills.
