Boosting digital learning in water management: Success of the PoVE Water Erasmus+ workshop
As part of the Platform for Vocational Excellence Water project, funded by the EU, a dynamic 5-day “Hands-On Workshop” on digital learning materials was organized. The workshop was hosted by MSM and 4 ICT experts of MCAST at the “state of the art” ICT premises of MCAST in Malta.
The primary goal of this workshop was to accelerate the completion of six interactive water management courses by equipping participants with cutting-edge digital education tools and methodologies. The workshop brought together digital enthusiasts and future online learning developers from five EU partner countries, all actively engaged in creating these innovative courses. Guided by online learning experts from MCAST, AVETICA, and WARP, participants explored how to integrate interactive and accredited online learning practices, including immersive VR scenarios, into their course designs.
A key focus was on aligning diverse learning outcomes within the short online water management courses to meet the rigorous standards and comply with respective National Quality Assurance standards for Vocational Education and Training (VET). With MCAST’s expertise, participants learned to design impactful and cohesive learning experiences that resonate with both EU and national educational benchmarks. MSM emphasized the significance of utilizing interactive tools within Moodle and engaging VR tools to enhance didactical practices, making learning more appealing and effective for vocational water management students. AVETICA conducted hands-on sessions on how to effectively apply interactive online learning activities using the Moodle ELMS system, empowering participants to create dynamic and engaging course content. WARP dedicated two full days to teaching the intricacies of writing and recording VR training scenarios, enriching participants’ skills in immersive educational design.
After 4.5 days of intensive collaboration and practical learning, participants reported a remarkable 60% increase in confidence when applying new integrative and interactive online learning tools. As a result, nearly six innovative water management courses on the Platform for Vocational Excellence are now ready for deployment and are scalable for use by other partners. Four engaging VR learning scenarios are scheduled for completion by the end of April, significantly enhancing the interactive component of the courses. This workshop as such marked a major advancement in the quality of online learning materials compared to the pilot phase of the project. It demonstrated the power of collaborative, hands-on learning and set a new benchmark for developing vocational education in water management. The PoVE Water Erasmus+ initiative continues to pave the way for excellence in digital vocational education, empowering educators and learners across Europe to thrive in an evolving educational landscape.
