Project Design and Project Monitoring Tools for Sudanese Ministries
The Project Design and Project Monitoring Tools courses implemented by MSM at the Federal Ministry of Transport and the Federal Ministry of Urban Development, Roads and Bridges in Sudan are a contribution to the ongoing Institutional Transformation Program that is supported by NUFFIC. The courses were developed and delivered online by Rui Miguel Santos.
A video conference system was used to connect the lecturer (in Lisbon, Portugal) to participants, gathered at a training room in Khartoum, Sudan. Participants followed the training from a SMART screen and the lecturer could follow in-class action through video equipment placed in the room. Local facilitators assisted the Rui Santos, lead trainer, on the interactive moments with participants. This combination created an instructive environment for the participants to soak in all the learning materials.
The trainees of this course are a taskforce selected from 14 different Units of the Sudanese ministry to build a strategic plan and action plan for their Institutional Transformation Programme. The units are now part of two ministries, The Federal Ministry of Transport and the Federal Ministry of Urban Development, Roads and Bridges.
The participants were divided into six thematic groups:
1. Steering and Management
2. Land Transport
3. Water Transport
4. Air Transport (Sudan Air)
5. Railways
6. Urban Development and Housing
The Tailor-Made-Training that carries out this program aims at promoting sustainable urban development and an inclusive urban transport system that lay the foundation for building a new Sudan. And this is precisely where the richness of this experience lies. It lies not only on the individual learning outcomes for the participants but also on the institutional assets that are a contribution to achieving the program’s goals. During the two training weeks, the thematic groups worked on the design of projects that will be contributing to the achievement of the transformation program goals. Rui Santos shared that the level of commitment per participants on the training activities was extremely high and reflected on the quantity and quality of the assignments presented by all groups. In fact, the groups assignments developed by the participants can become a solid basis to build the portfolio of the Transition Program.
Contributing to transforming Sudan in a new country is an exciting venture!
