MSM provides facilitation, partnering and stakeholder management training in Sudan
The Tailor-Made-Training (TMT) in Sudan is moving ahead quickly by providing its third training course already this year. After training sessions on Leadership and Planning as well as Change Management, this time the 4-day training focused on facilitation, partnering and stakeholder management.
The course was taught virtually by MSM expert Miriam Frijns who kicked off the training by diving into carrying out stakeholder analysis in relation to project management. As every project has different stakeholders it is important to have a clear view of your stakeholders as well as knowing that everyone involved has something to win or to lose. In this part of the training stakeholders of The Federal Ministry of Transport and The Federal Ministry of Urban Development, Roads and Bridges were identified and classified and on that basis a communication plan was developed.
Building partnerships
The next topic that the participants were indulged in was partnering. On this subject the link towards stakeholders was made again as some of the ministries’ stakeholders will also be their direct partners with whom they execute projects. The type of partners can vary from financial partners to donors or technical partners. Good collaboration with those partners and between the partners is very important for the success of the continuation and success of the project. Miram Frijns put the emphasis on how crucial the skill of establishing and building good relationships with partners is when going through a change project. This information is highly valuable for the ministries as they are in the midst of a crucial change process which needs high level leadership and management skills.
After this session on building partnerships the participants are able to among others establish a relationship with new partners and successfully conduct meetings with new stakeholders. Furthermore, they are now aware how to inspire partners for projects as well as build trust among different stakeholders and adopt their communication style towards their partner.
Communication is the vehicle to success
The 4-day course ended with learning about the importance of communication and facilitation. Communication is the vehicle to success of a project as well as the obstacle to the failure of a project. Facilitating is one way of communicating and is very often needed in meetings with partners when input of all partners from different angles are needed to solve issues. For example, if meetings are being led from a power position point of view, the interest and motivation of partners is often lost. Therefore, the aim was on how to facilitate partner project meetings, group discussions and brainstorm sessions well and in a professional manner.
About the Project
MSM is collaborating with The Federal Ministry of Transport and The Federal Ministry of Urban Development, Roads and Bridges in Sudan in organizing the TMT to provide the taskforce with skills and practical instruments to better identify the appropriate direction of change and guide their organizations through the transition process starting from strategic planning, change management, stakeholder management and facilitation, through to project design, monitoring and finance.
