08-07-2024

Each year the last two weeks of June promise to be exciting and busy weeks at MSM with the annual MBA Summer School taking place. This year was no exception. On 15 June 2024, 186 MBA students gathered in Maastricht to start their two-week expertise track courses.

This year, eight expertise tracks were organised – Sustainable Business in the Global Economy, Supply Chain Management, Banking and Finance, Entrepreneurship, Accounting and Finance, The Digital Economy, International Business and Innovative Leadership.

We welcomed students from our residential Full-time MBA, Executive MBA and Online MBA programmes and from our global MBA programmes in Hungary, Kuwait and Romania, creating a multicultural and diverse learning environment.

Full-time MBA student Samira Dastvan participated in the Supply Chain Management expertise track. She not only enjoyed the knowledge and insights she gained, but also valued the diverse learning environment: “Throughout this course, I gained profound insights, especially into the purchasing challenges faced within the supply chain. Moreover, it was an incredible opportunity to connect and collaborate with fellow students from various MSM programmes across different countries. The diverse perspectives and shared experiences added immense value to the learning process. I look forward to applying these learnings in real-world scenarios and continuing my professional growth in the field of supply chain management.”

Maryam Malallah from the Kuwait MBA programme explored the Accounting and Finance expertise track and found the Summer School a transformative experience: “Throughout this course, we delved deeply into the intricacies of financial accounting and reporting, covering a wide range of topics that have significantly enhanced my understanding and skills. I am grateful for the knowledge and insights gained during this course, and I am excited to apply these learnings to my professional endeavours. This experience has not only improved my technical abilities but also reinforced my passion for financial analysis and strategic decision-making.”

The summer school courses provided a mix of theory, group work, simulation games, expert guest lectures and work visits, offering an intense and diverse learning experience.

Full-time MBA student Rahim Uddin appreciated the insightful work visit to EMMA Safety Footwear as part of the Sustainable Business in the Global Economy track: “We were inspired by Emma Safety Footwear's remarkable efforts in sustainability and the circular economy. Their innovative practices in responsible sourcing, waste reduction, and recycling are truly setting a benchmark in the industry. This experience has enriched our understanding and commitment to sustainable business practices.”

Leonard Alexandru from the BISM Romania MBA programme considered the Summer School experience extremely rewarding, especially the simulation game: “I feel more prepared than ever to tackle business challenges. The "Boardroom Executive Simulation" put me, for the first time, in a CEO's shoes, trying to maximize the shareholder's returns. It's been hard. It's been fun. It's been eye-opening. It was an experience that left me wondering for more and one I will think about in the weeks ahead.” Leonard followed the Innovative Leadership expertise track.

Adam Keresztes, following the double degree MBA programme in Hungary at Corvinus University, valued both the academic experience and the city of Maastricht: “The sessions in the Digital Economy expertise track were incredibly useful, with top-notch professors and speakers providing valuable insights and practical knowledge. The team dynamic was intense, with different perspectives enriching each discussion. Beyond the academic, the cultural experience in Maastricht was fascinating. The city itself, with its rich history and vibrant atmosphere, provided the perfect backdrop for our learning journey.”

Mohamed Shouman from the MBA programme in Kuwait, summarised his Summer School experience as follows: “The academic setting, supportive faculty, and the vibrant city of Maastricht significantly contributed to both my academic journey and personal development. I not only acquired valuable insights but also broadened my professional network. The expertise track in Banking and Finance offered a dynamic learning environment, allowing me to delve deeper into my chosen field.”

Adel Alhendal who followed the Digital Economy expertise track, found inspiration for the future: “My experience at Maastricht School of Management has been unforgettable. I met colleagues from many countries, participated in insightful workshops led by experts, and learned from the best professors. This enriching journey has inspired me to pursue a PhD program after completing my MBA.”
