The impact of EHR on the quality of care in public healthcare centres in Kuwait
On 25 March 2022 Ms. Shaimaa Nasser Yacoub Rabiah successfully defended her DBA thesis titled “Diversity in Electronic Health Records Implementation and its Impact on the Quality of Care Provided in Public Healthcare Centres in the State of Kuwait”.
About the research of Dr. Rabiah
The research of Dr. Rabiah is concerned with healthcare and information technology management. The research examines the effect of EHRs implementation on the quality of care through determining the meaningful use of EHR. Moreover, meaningful use, prescription errors, and test duplication are examined as the quality-of-care aspects. In addition, the level of diversity for EHR core functionalities is assessed. The investigation was conducted in the seven public hospitals in the State of Kuwait. The particpants were 1500 patients (Survey), 22 doctors (Interviews), and Heads of the Information Technology department from each hospital (Survey). Partial least square structured equation modelling (PLS-SEM) has been applied to examine the research model.
The findings revealed that EHR implementation affects the quality of care through meaningful use and test duplication. Prescription errors have no significant effect on the direct quality of the care. The effect of the level of diversity is statically substantial on the quality of care. The quality of care is required to be improved through the development of EHR and implemented in the hospitals to maintain patients’ health.
