Customer Acceptance of Mobile Banking in Nigeria: Online DBA defense
On 3 December 2021, Ms. Nemi Sekibo successfully defended her DBA thesis titled: Customer Acceptance of New Technology. The case of mobile banking adoption in Nigeria. The defense took place in an online session.
About Dr. Sekibo’s research
The aim of the research was to extensively explore to what extent perceived security, telecom infrastructure, and customer acceptance influence mobile banking adoption in Nigeria. In addition, Dr. Sekibo wanted to understand their importance, and in what ways measures were put in place to improve the current situation.
The findings revealed that although the point of sale ‘POS’, mobile app ‘MA’, and the unstructured supplementary service data ‘USSD’ channels are being adopted by Nigerians, service efficiency and consistency challenges seamless transactions. Furthermore, network issues and transaction charges are other significant gaps. Recommendations are: policy makers need to evaluate the need for cost effective transactions and the networks needs to be improved. In addition, Dr. Sekibo recommends to promulgate regulations not only for banks, but also for telecom and fintech institutions coming into the financial market as payment service banks.
