Advancing Female Leadership in the Palestinian Water Sector
As part of the ongoing project titled "Assuring Economic Viability and Environmental Sustainability of Palestinian Regional Water Utilities," a Female Talent Development Workshop was recently organized to empower women professionals in the Palestinian water sector. This workshop, organized by the Water Sector Regulatory Council (WSRC) and supported by Maastricht School of Management (MSM), focused on enhancing female leadership and professional growth within the sector.
The event featured distinguished speakers, including His Excellency Mr. Dawood Al-Deek, the Palestinian Deputy Minister of Women's Affairs, and Ms. Iman Dweik, Coordinator of the Palestinian Women and Water Network. Their insightful addresses highlighted the critical role women play in the sector and emphasized the importance of gender inclusion in service delivery. Eng. Mohammad Al-Humaidi, CEO of the WSRC, also provided key insights into the results of gender participation studies in water services.
Another part of the workshop was the presentation of the Female Talent Development Toolkit, developed by MSM and tailored specifically for the Palestinian context. Ms. Veerle Barten, project consultant at MSM’s Expert Centre on Emerging Economies (ECEE) introduced the toolkit, designed to provide practical tools and strategies for overcoming gender-based challenges, fostering leadership skills, and promoting gender equality in the workplace. The toolkit addresses various barriers women face, including work-family conflict, organizational biases, and the gender pay gap.
The workshop provided a platform for participants to engage in meaningful discussions and set the foundation for actionable steps toward greater gender equality. By supporting female talent development, this initiative aims to not only empower individual professionals but also contribute to the broader goal of sustainable and inclusive development in the region.
