Continuation and Strengthening of Service, Training, and Innovation Centres (STICs) Development

Building on the SEAD, SEAD West, and TMT+ projects, this initiative aimed to strengthen the Service, Training and Innovation Centres (STICs) in Rwanda’s key agricultural value chains (dairy, potato, poultry, horticulture, and agri-tourism) further. The focus was on consolidating past achievements, enhancing stakeholder collaboration, aligning with national strategies, and securing continuity for sustainability.

Objectives:

  • Strengthen STIC ecosystems by engaging key stakeholders.
  • Align STICs with Rwanda’s national development priorities.
  • Develop a strategy proposal to scale up STICs.

Key activities & expected outcomes:

  • Stakeholder mapping: Identify and engage key actors to support STICs' sustainability.
  • High-level roundtable in Kigali: Engage national stakeholders to validate and refine the STIC model.
  • Strategy development: Prepare a strategy document for expansion.

Impact:

  1. Enhanced stakeholder engagement and collaboration.
  2. Strengthened linkages between research, education, government and private sectors.
  3. A validated roadmap for securing sustainability of the STICs.
  4. A more sustainable STIC ecosystem supporting Rwanda’s agricultural and economic growth.

This initiative solidified previous efforts and positioned the STICs for long-term success further.

Types of services provided:

  1. Stakeholder engagement & ecosystem development: Facilitating collaboration among financial institutions, government bodies, civil society, and business associations to build a strong support network for STICs.
  2. Capacity building & training: Supporting STIC coordinators and stakeholders through structured discussions, workshops, and development sessions to enhance their ability to sustain and expand the STIC model.
  3. Strategic planning & policy alignment: Ensuring STIC activities align with Rwanda’s national strategies in agriculture, education, and economic development.
  4. Event organization & knowledge sharing: Hosting high-level roundtables to consolidate findings, validate strategies, and foster knowledge exchange among key players in the STIC ecosystem.
  5. Strategy development: Assisting in drafting a comprehensive proposal to secure scaling and sustaining STIC operations.

These services collectively ensured that STICs become more integrated, self-sustaining innovation hubs contributing to Rwanda’s agricultural and economic development.
