Supporting the integration in Agricultural Curricula of Climate Change concerns
From October 2011 until December 2015, MSM contributed to a project that was aimed to strengthen education and research at Hue University of Agriculture and Forestry (HUAF), Hanoi University of Agriculture (HUA), and Hong Duc University (HDU) in order to contribute to the sustainable development of the agricultural sector in Vietnam. The challenge was to ensure a sufficient influx of highly qualified human resources with a special focus on adaptation and mitigation to climate change.
The four specific objectives of the project were first that HUA, HDU and HUAF have strengthened management and organizational capacity in order to lead the revision and innovation of education and research programs in response to climate change impacts and other relevant developments in the agricultural sector.
Second, that these three universities were delivering education and training programs on farming systems that are responsive to climate change mitigation and adaptation and labor market needs in the agricultural sector.
Third, that they would have strengthened their capacity to develop and implement applied research programs seeking solutions for climate change adaptation and mitigation in different agro-ecological zones with a special focus on horticulture, aqua-culture and agro forestry.
Last, HUA, HDU and HUAF would cooperate in a network with each other to exchange resources and information and to improve jointly the quality and relevance of interdisciplinary education and research in the field of farming systems with a focus on climate change adaptation and mitigation and sustainable agricultural development.
