Bright Future in Agriculture (BFA): Enhancing employability and food security in Ethiopia through quality ATVETs in horticulture and dairy
Bright Future in Agriculture (BFA) is a three-year project in support of the Ethiopian agricultural vocational education sector that runs from January 2019 to 2021. The main contribution of the project will be on creating more opportunities for (youth) employment and hence improved business and value chains in the horticultural and dairy sub-sectors.
On local level, four ATVET colleges (2 in Oromia and 2 in Amhara) will be capacitated to perform teaching, technology transfer and industry extension on inclusive agro-processing, -value addition, and -production. On regional level, the Oromia and Amhara TVET Bureaus will be capacitated to being better positioned to execute their pivotal roles in orchestrating the TVET sector. On national (federal) level, the national TVET teacher training programs offered by the Ethiopian Technical University (ETU) related to dairy and horticulture are improved as well as their education programs on TVET leadership (MSc and short courses). This involves staff and programs at the ETU campus in Addis Ababa as well staff and programs at the two ETU agricultural satellite campuses in Wukro and Holeta. In addition, partnerships and lessons learned will be sustained and rolled out to other agricultural TVET colleges in the same regions, and to other regions, in particular Tigray and SNNPR.
