Driving sustainable transformation through inclusive development
Inclusive and sustainable development is central to building stable, prosperous societies. From climate resilience to gender equality, from informal economies to responsible leadership, institutions in emerging economies must address systemic challenges while creating opportunities for all.
At MSM’s Expert Centre on Emerging Economies (ECEE), we work with higher education institutions, ministries, the private sector, business associations, and NGOs to integrate sustainability, inclusivity, and equity into their operations, strategies, and impact models. Our approach aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially those related to quality education, decent work and economic growth, gender equality, peace, justice and strong institutions and partnerships for the goals.
What we offer
We provide targeted support across three key focus areas:
- Sustainable institutional transformation: We strengthen institutions by embedding ESG principles, sustainability reporting, and impact measurement tools. Our advisory services cover policy reform and inclusive business development to enhance long-term resilience.
- Gender equality and inclusive leadership: We help organizations mainstream gender in strategy, operations, education, and leadership. Our services include gender audits, policy design, female talent development, inclusive entrepreneurship programs, and practical toolkits like the Female Talent Development Toolkit.
- Inclusive local economic development: We work at the intersection of education, industry, and policy to build systems that support (small) businesses, address informality, and create equitable labour market access. Through triple and quadruple helix approaches, we foster collaboration between public, private, academic, and civil society actors.

Making impact happen
Our inclusive and sustainability-focused strategies have supported institutions across sectors and regions to lead change and deliver long-term results.
In Palestine, we strengthened female leadership in the water sector by empowering women professionals and supporting institutions to adopt gender-responsive strategies and overcome systemic barriers.
In South Africa, we worked with TVET colleges and universities to strengthen climate-smart agriculture education, linking academic institutions with the horticulture industry to improve student employability and drive inclusive green growth.
In Uganda, we supported police and judiciary training institutions to address sexual and gender-based violence through inclusive institutional reform.
