Meet Msm's Staff Members: Introducing Maud de By

17-01-2018

At MSM we are proud of the more than 40 staff members who are committed and eager to fulfill our mission in offering management and entrepreneurship education, advice and research to individuals and organizations from all over the world. To become more acquainted with our staff members and to show you how it feels for them working at MSM we will each month highlight one of our staff members. This month the spotlight will be on Ms. Maud de By.

Let me introduce myself…
I’m Maud de By, working as Communications Manager at MSM. In 2010 I graduated from Zuyd University of Applied Sciences where I did a bachelor’s study on Commercial Management (CM). Next to my study I had a full-time job at a recruitment agency in Maastricht. Combining my study with a professional career was tough, but definitely worthwhile! The CM program at Zuyd University is a marketing management study and since the best know and renowned marketing manager diploma is the one of NIMA, CM uses the NIMA-B exam criteria as the final attainment level for its (Marketing) curriculum.

In my job I am responsible for the daily management of the Communications team. Together with my colleagues in the team, I am responsible for all online and offline communications, with main focus on increasing MSM’s brand awareness and promoting MSM’s education programs. Wherever you see the MSM logo or MSM’s name come by; it is the work from my team and me!

With its 65 years, MSM is one of the oldest business schools in the Netherlands, but despite what the age suggests, MSM is relatively unknown in its own country. Only recently we are creating more brand awareness here in Maastricht and in the EURegion and I hope we can expand our fame further in the coming years.

At MSM the world comes to me!
Students come to MSM from all over the world and leave their families, friends, and homes behind. Sometimes for only a couple of days, when they are participating in one of our Executive Programs, but often for an entire year, when they are studying for a Master in Management or MBA. When they arrive here at MSM they are solo travellers, but when they leave they have built new relationships and become part of the MSM family. It is truly inspiring to see that people from such different backgrounds become the closest friends, no matter what religion or skin colour they have, which language they speak or where they come from.

As a mother of two very young boys (2 years and 10 months) I cannot travel and explore the world as much as I would like to, this in contrast to my partner Roy, who is working as an airline pilot and is able to visit the most beautiful places in the world for his job.  I’m not afraid I miss anything though, because at MSM the world comes to me! It is such a privilege to work with colleagues from all over the world and to meet students from different countries and cultures. In a couple of years time, when the boys are older, I hope we can make those distant trips as a family and that I can show the boys how beautiful and diverse our world is.

What I mostly do in my spare time..
I’m born, raised and still live in the most Burgundian region of the Netherlands – the province of Limburg – and I love to spend my spare time as a real Burgundian. Enjoying the simple things in life; cooking, spending time with my family, long walks with my dog, gardening in my vegetable garden and dining out with my partner, friends and/or family.
